Frequently Asked Questions

Which enclosure sizes are supported?

The app currently includes presets for the following enclosures: 125B, 1590A, 1590B, 1590BB, 1590BB2, 1590J, 1590P1, Gorva C65, and Gorva S90.

If your enclosure isn’t listed, you can request it by emailing stompboxlayout@gmail.com, or create a custom enclosure by entering its dimensions manually.

The enclosure I use isn’t listed in the presets dropdown. Can it be added?

If your enclosure isn’t included, you can request it by emailing stompboxlayout@gmail.com. Please include the enclosure name and, if possible, a link to its datasheet. We regularly review requests and will be happy to add new presets for you.

In the meantime, you can also create a custom enclosure by entering its dimensions manually, so you can start designing your layout right away.

Can I design layouts for non-rectangular enclosures, like the 1590TRPB?

Currently, the app supports rectangular and square enclosures only. Non-rectangular shapes such as the 1590TRPB aren’t directly supported, since accurate drilling templates rely on consistent edges and reference points.

You can still approximate your layout by using a slightly larger custom rectangular enclosure and adjusting hole positions when transferring the template.

We’re open to requests for new enclosure shapes — feel free to email stompboxlayout@gmail.com with suggestions.

Is there a way to measure to a reference point, like the enclosure centre, rather than the enclosure edge?

Yes! Press R to enter Reference Mode. This reveals all the reference lines in your layout and lets you measure relative to any of them — for example, the enclosure centre or the axis of a hole (or multiple holes). This makes alignment much easier and more precise.

Can I measure from a hole edge rather than the hole centre?

Yes! This is especially useful when reverse-engineering a template from an already drilled enclosure to position holes relative to the enclosure edge or to each other. Press M to toggle between measuring from the hole centre and the hole edge.

Can I add custom components, like knobs or switches?

Custom components aren’t currently supported — the app is designed specifically for creating drill templates.

We understand how this could be useful for planning hole placement, so please reach out to stompboxlayout@gmail.com if you’d like to see this feature added in the future.

Can I export my template as a PDF for printing?

Yes! You can download your template as a PDF, ready for full-size printing and use as a drilling guide.

How do I ensure the printed template is full-size and accurate?

Templates are generated at actual size. When printing, ensure that no scaling options (such as “fit to page” or “shrink to fit”) are applied. This ensures your printout matches your enclosure dimensions exactly.

What should I do if the printout doesn’t match the enclosure dimensions?

Check your print settings to ensure that scaling isn’t applied. Some printers hide these options in advanced menus, so be sure to look there if your template isn’t printing at full size.

If you’re still having trouble, feel free to email stompboxlayout@gmail.com for help.

Can I create a copy of my template to use as the starting point for a new one?

Yes! You can use the “Make a copy” option in the File menu to duplicate any template. This lets you use an existing layout as the starting point for a new design without altering the original.

Can I share my templates with others?

Yes! Click the lock icon in the top right to make your project public, then share the project’s URL. Shared projects are editable by others, but they can only save changes by duplicating them into their own workspace — so your original template stays safe.
